Shortly after the earthquake, relief teams comprising personnel from the Red Cross, firefighters, police, and civil defense officials were deployed. Subsequently, the Colombian government declared a state of emergency in response to the earthquake. Many walls and buildings collapsed, causing multiple fatalities in cities such as Palestina, Armenia, and Pereira.
