Escape from Los Angeles" is a 1996 American post-apocalyptic action film co-written, scored, and directed by John Carpenter. It is a sequel to Escape from New York from 1981.

In the year 2000, a massive earthquake strikes Los Angeles, isolating the city from the mainland while flooding the San Fernando Valley. A theocratic presidential candidate, who declares that God is punishing Los Angeles for its sins, wins the election for a lifetime term.
